Can you predict the buzz?
Six different opponents, each with their own personality, will challenge you at a variety of levels, from EASY to HARD. Figuring out how to work with each will increase your odds of winning the game.
Modern Art: The Card Game is built on the same MobileEuroCard platform that RPGnet has used to release four different games by Reiner Knizia and Michael Schacht. Simple gestures, colorful animations, and evocative sounds all combine to make a great gaming experience.
This game has been published for the tabletop as Masters Gallery and Modern Art: The Card Game. Though it shares a setting and general ideas with the auction tabletop game Modern Art, it is a distinct publication.
You can buy Reiner Knizia's Modern Art: The Card Game at the iPhone store.
Taking a Turn: On your turn you’ll play one card from your hand. Some cards have special powers when played at certain times, as discussed on the next page.
A round continues until at least six cards have been played for any one artist. Then, each player may add cards to the set that he’ll score that round: up to one card of each different artist he played that round. These cards do not affect the ranking of the artists but will increase points scored.
Scoring the Artists: Each round the artists will be ranked, based on the total number of cards played for them. For ties, artists with fewer cards in the deck will rank higher.
Only the top three artists score. They gain bonuses of +3, +2, and +1, added to points earned in previous rounds. Each card played for these top artists scores an artist’s total value. Cards played for the 4th and 5th place artists are worth nothing.
Continuing Play: You get to keep unplayed cards and will be dealt additional ones before the second and third rounds.
Cards with a symbol have a special effect. These effects occur whenever you play a card normally. They do not occur for the card that ends a round, nor for cards played as the result of another special card.
Draw One Card (square box). Add a card from the draw deck to your hand.
Play a Second Card Face-Up (equal sign). Play a second card of the same artist. (Optional.)
Play a Second Card Face-Down (slanted & shaded equal sign). Play a second card of any artist face-down. It’ll be revealed at the end of the round and may affect artist ranking. (Optional.)
Simultaneous Play (four diamonds). Each player secretly plays a card. Afterward, all cards are simultaneously revealed.
Hype an artist (2). Improve the value of any artist by +2.
