Maintain a list of characters, complete with XP and level info. Mark them as active or inactive, depending on who shows up each session.
As you play, tap CRs onto a colorful calculator, then when you're ready to split up experience, hit the calculate button. Everything will be instantly computed for you!
XP information is archived for the future and will also tell you when to level up each character.
You can buy The 3.5e Fantasy RPG Experience Calculator at the iPhone store.
The characters tab is where you maintain the listing of all your characters. It should be where you begin your work with the XP Calculator by entering information on all of the characters currently in your 3.5e campaign.
By default the listing will show you the name of each character, an icon to help identify them, their level, and their current XP. If the character is currently inactive, this information will all appear in gray.
The Charracters Tab has four functions: "+", "edit", "activate", and "view character".
- Add (+). The add function allows you to add a new character to the party. It will pop up the character editor with a new, blank template.
- Edit. The edit function lets you remove characters from the listing. Simply click "edit", click the "-" sign next to a character that you want to remove, then confirm with the "delete" button to the right. When a character's gone, they're gone, so make sure you're certain! When you're all done, you can hit the "done" button to return to your normal view.
- Activate. You can quickly activate or deactive any character by touching the icon to their left.
- View Character. To view a character, click on their row, to the right of their icon. This will pop up the character editor with the information about the character.
The Character Editor
The character editor slides into place when you create a new character with the "+" key or when you edit a character by tapping on their row. You can change a character's name, level, or XP through a popup keyboard, you can toggle their activity by touching the "active" row, or you can modify their icon through a popup icon selector.
After you've made a change, you will see "save" and "cancel" icons appear; you should select the correct one.
Note: Initially Setting Level & XP. The level and XP values are interrelated, as follows. If you don't bother to set XP for a character, it'll automatically be set to the minimum value for the selected level when XP is next calculated. Otherwise, if a character's level is the wrong value for their XP, the XP will be used to recalculate their level.
Note: Changing Level & XP. You can modify the level and the XP values by hand. Doing so will modify future calculations, but not past ones.
The "Enter CRs" tab contains the actual
calculator. It's what you'll usually have open when you're gaming, so
that you can easily tap in new CRs as the players earn them. It should
be your second stop, once you've entered your active characters.
Besides the "data entry" and "calc" capabilities, this tab also contains an "edit" button, which will activate when you have entered one or more CRs.
- Data Entry. To enter CRs, simply touch the appropriate buttons. Tap a button multiple times to record multiple values of the same CR. The number of CRs that you've saved for each value will appear at the bottom of the appropriate button in gray. These are CRs that have not yet been divided among the characters.
- Calc. When you're ready to divide up the CRs among the players, hit the "calc" button. This will give you one last opportunity to make sure you're dividing up the CRs among the right characters. If you OK the listing you're shown, the CRs will be divided up, and you'll be brought to a new archive page, which shows what everyone earned.
- Edit. This button is only usable when you have entered one or more CRs. Tapping it will slide in the "Remove CRs" page.
The Remove CRs Page
When the Remove CRs Page slides in, you'll see that it looks just like the main calculator, but it's all in red.
- Exiting. To exit this page, click the "Enter CRs" back arrow, to the top left.
- Data Removal. To remove a recorded CR, click its button. As with the main Calculator, gray text shows the number of CRs that remain for each value. To remove several CRs of the same value, tap the same button multiple times.
- Clear. Tapping the "clear" button will remove all the undivided CRs at once.
About Epic Levels
There is no official way to calculate epic levels in 3.5e. The Epic Level Handbook was a 3.0e release and its XP table does not correctly line up with the XP table for 3.5e.This calculator uses what the designer believes to be the best methodology for calculating 3.5e XP levels: the 3.5e XP tables are naturally extended out using their internal mathematics. This matches somewhere more than half of the table from the Epic Level Handbook, but does not match the rest due to an update in the underlying XP table from 3.0e to 3.5e.
This page retains records of all of the
experience point divisions that have occurred. To look up an
individual record, simply select the row.
Each row also shows you a variety of information, including the date and day of the week for the record and how much XP was split among how many players.
The graphics to the far left depict two additional elements of information. First, gold, silver, and bronze stars proudly declare your three best experience divisions. Second, a number to the top left of the star shows the maximum CR earned that division.
- View Record. When you select a record, an XP Record Page will slide in.
The XP Record Page
This page lists exactly how many XP were earned by each player. For reference, each player's current level is also shown at the top right of their row; if this is a new level, then a "level up" icon appears right of that.
- Delete Record. You have the option to delete only the newest XP record. If you do so, all of the CRs that made up the XP will be released back to the calculator. This function should really only be used if, immediately after you divided up the XP, you realized that you made some mistake, such as setting someone's level wrong.
Note: Updated Records. If you update character information (such as by deleting a character or changing a character's level), then delete a XP Record, then recalc it, the updated character information will be used in the new calculation.
This page has two screens that you can toggle between using the info button at top right. The first page shows very brief instructions on how to use the calculator. The second page lists the credits for the program.
If you click on the "Visit RPGnet" button on this page, you'll be brought to this documentation.
