Email and Lists
Email is very useful, so some basic words on how to get to your email
are noted. Also, the policy for creating email lists is shown.
If you have a "POP" email account, this means you can run email
software (such as Eudora) on your local machine and just use your
standard dial-in to access your rpg.net email. To do this, configure
your "POP" software to point to "rpg.net" using "pop3" and your
username and password. That's it!
Clients can also read their email by logging directly into their
account (using ssh or telnet) and then invoking one of many email
reading programs (such as 'mail' or 'elm'). Such programs have
their own documentation (type 'man mail' or 'man elm' to get their
manual pages).
Email lists
RPGnet uses the "SmartList" email listserve software (and also uses procmail
for list filtering). This is a popular
package that many internet users are already familiar with. To join or
leave a list, just send to that list's request address, "LISTNAME-request@rpg.net", with the 'Subject:' line of 'join' or 'quit'.
To make a list, contact 'sales@rpg.net' and ask. We'll need to know
what you want to call the list, and will ask you some other basic
questions (like who should be the list owner/moderator and such).
In addition to purchasing a list, you can also archive your list
on the web or otherwise make the information publically accessible,
and we can give tips on this.
