Hi all.
The "new" AD&D system (rolling dice against some DM-determined difficulty class, high rolls are always good, skill system, feats etc.) really is good and playable. But it is hardly new nor innovative. It is rather a slight variant of FASA's Earthdawn system, where all of the above (and so much more) is present (under different names). FASA let Earthdawn die some time ago but Living Room Games has recently revived it. I consider both D&D3rdEd and Earthdawn to be mature and well executed realizations of the same set of basic game mechanics. But the Wizards of the Coast staff in no way invented these, regardless of what you may read in some interviews ...
Cheers, Christoph
