Well I know you'd be more pleased with feedback on your first part, but I have not much to say, although some stuff about african myths may be useful for some fiction I am writing.
I am quite amazed at your comment on Iraqi suicide bombers. I don't want to expose my own vision about them, but I think your reason for denying them "heroity" (to invent such words) is a bit weak: isn't war a waste of resource? Or any part of war that involves taking a risk? When heroes die, its a waste of soldiers. Yet they are dead heroes.
In addition to that, I think you can hardly compare the material idea of military resource loss with the idea, supposedly great, of heroism.
