I recently wrote a book which I'm about to write a sequel to http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0345428722/ref=pd_fof_rh_cp_a_1//002-9294773-0890424?v=glance&s=books which was in the world of L. Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz series. I decided for that particular tome I would create a hero to lead the story.
The character wore white, read Thoreau and the Bible, always was calm and merciful, with an essentially light hearted stoicism to his enjoyment of the world.
I found it very hard to relate to the man as well as occasionally write for since he was...to put it blunty....an extremely well adjusted young man with no real torment to him.
I found myself however admiring the character a great deal and it became a much more powerful struggle in my mind to see him do battle with the 'villains' of the book. It also made the other characters better.
Curiously I have found that many readers have written bizzare fanfiction about him though :-)
