The only point to this column seems to be to suggest that fighter characters develop a backstory. It can make for a stronger character, but not always.
Good character is learned better through their actions. Look at your 'Fighter' films and stories. Is the Conan film better than the Robert E. Howard stories for seeing him as a kid? Is Die Hard rubbish 'cos we never find out how John was traumatised as a child?
It's not where you've been, it's what you're doing.
