Both the article and the comments are all interesting points, each with some validity.

This will somewhat state the obvious, but I’m sure you’ll all agree.

The fighter as with any class has the potential to be a fantastic character class. The real secret as to ‘how good’ they are is how well the role-player plays them. A good role-player creates more than a sheet of stats, plays more than a hit or damage role. They create a history, a personality and a vision (no matter how small or large or (in) significant). Combine these three and you have the potential for excellent role-playing and great characters. All you need to do is role-play these with the story sets and plots that your GM/DM provides. If you take these three character dimensions with a good gm/dm, your character no matter how simple minded, how smack it hit hard orientated he is, can be fun, cool or what ever. Have this and even the most stereotypical animalistic Gangrel can have depth of character!!!

Games don’t make character classes cool, fun or interesting – good role-players do this.
