I love the idea of the Mix-O-Tronic. I look forward to the day when the authors will make it freely available (nudge, nudge). However I can see its limits, and this column demonstrates one.
Given 'Tolkien races/cyberpunk/black ops' most people would come up with Shadowrun, or something very much like it. And given 'messiah/K-PAX/marketplace' I can certainly see how the creators came up with something that very much resembles one of the more disputed RPGnet-created games, Last Exodus*. Personally, I would have liked something more along the lines of Eddie Murphy's character in 'Holy Man', but YMMV.
My point is, sometimes there will be combinations that have been done, and unless you can come up with a new look at the concepts presented, maybe a re-roll is the best option. Just my $0.02.
*Admittedly the game is often not discussed on its merits as a game, but more as a lead-in to a 'discussion' on the merits/competency/intelligence or lack thereof of the creators.
