Whenever a new game comes out, especially one as genre-spanning as UnderWorld, the question of "tone" always arises. It is a part of, but certainly not the whole of, setting. Tone drives a game as surely as adventure. You've seen more than a few glimpses of Gareth's "Ideal tone" because this forum has allowed you to.
But every Conductor swings their own lantern, as it were.
You want a bloody UnderWorld, no problem. You want a gritty UnderWorld, ditto.
In my opinion one of the greatest things about UnderWorld is that campaigns can vary wildly, entirely dependent upon which aspects of the game that a given Conductor wishes to explore.
To quote one of my favorite toon's [and one of the inspirations for portions of the game :)] :
Reporter: What are you bringing to the fair, Dr. Mung-mung?
Dr. Mung-mung: Wonders and atrocities, Brian.
See ya Down Below,
Todd
