Not a bad rant - although I disagree with your solution: making Storyteller and Silhouette would not improve things. The need is there for another major increase in general gaming base (and despite what Wizards-Hasbro thinks they need to be general gamers and not single system fans).
New themes, genres and games will come and go (expect a lot of post-Sept 11th thoughts to be expressed in upcoming new games and products - a lot of thought about terror and good/evil anti-relativism, maybe a few America-Dystopia scenarios), but what is needed is more people in the hobby, not necessarily more systems and certainly not a monopoly of a single system.
As for DP9 and its prices - I think more people will take a look at it when Hasbro (and everyone else) raises their prices and suddenly DP9 isn't being affected by the "luxury prices" stigma and instead they become the mid-point in the price range.
The winner this year was Hasbro that's for sure, and the Fantasy game in general (with the Pulp/World War era coming in a very close second place), but there were others who had smaller victories. White Wolf managed to shake a good chunk of the bad press it gets with the near-simultaneous release of Exalted and Adventure! - neither game having a drop of angst or convoluted metaplot.
My 2 cents.
