Pukingly cute and cuddly combative monsters aside, I assume you're referring to the Pokemon Jr. Adventure Game released a couple of years ago.
I bought this for my GF's 9 year old brother, and I must say, playing it with him was one of the most rewarding roleplaying experiences in my life.
Quite simply, it was damn near amazing. He had no experience with pen and paper RPGs before, but fell right into the groove. He had no biases, no concept of min-maxing or hack and slash, he was genuinely excited about the things going on in the "adventure," and every time I see him now he's bugging me to GM for him again. He even suggested that we do a Transformers game, which I would have absolutely no objection to.
So despite WotC's attempt at capitalizing on the craze, I helped create a future gamer with the product (which I happened to get on sale at Toys R Us for $2) and had a blast in the progress.
Just thought I'd share.
