[Brains got sucked away by helping some friends write a LARP this past month (which ran 9/29), so I didn't get to the new column right away.]
I own a lot of BRP CoC stuff, but haven't actually played CoC using the original system yet. (GURPS yes, Lovecraft-flavored D&D yes, BRP no.) But some of my players from those other games are curious about the BRP version, so I may eventually try running it. And I'm currently between full-time campaigns, so actually have a little time to try one-shots in new systems.
I recently saw that Chaosium is releasing the BRP stand-alone rulebook. I'm curious how close that book is to the CoC rules--other than Sanity, what essential rules does CoC add to the core BRP? I'm wondering whether picking up a copy of the BRP book (at only $6) would give them enough of the rules to be able to play CoC (which is $38 for the 6E hardback, which I don't own anyway--mine's 5E).

p.s. to Paul: I may actually pick up GURPS Atomic Horror soonish. It doesn't normally fit into any of the games I run (which are mostly ancient/medieval fantasy), but I've been overdosing on Ken Hite's "Suppressed Transmission" columns lately... ;-)
