Hey all,
I recently returned to playing CoC after having taken nearly ten years away from the game. I've been having a great time, but it's given me an opportunity to "re-examine" the game from the ground up.
One of the things my group decided is that we really like the Target Number idea from games such as d6, Ars Magica, D20, etc.
The active/passive target matrix that was suggested in this article seems to work well, but I think it's a bit too much math for our feeble brains.
Here's what we came up with:
Keeper sets a "Target Number" for a task. The scalable difficulty numbers are:
Simple: 10
Easy: 25
Average: 50
Hard: 75
Tough: 100
Extreme: 125
Nearly Impossible: 150
To make the roll, you simply roll d% and add it to the skill in question. IE: you've got a Drive of 30%. You're trying to tail a cultist while speeding along the freeway. Keeper decides that's an "Average" task with a TN of 50. So, you've got to roll at least a 20 on your d% roll.
So, that's it. I am interested in developing more use for the Characteristics as well. Usually, they just default to "make a DEX x2 roll to not fall off the cliff in the rain" or something.
