In general, I think you took the correct approach in keeping things simple and not deviating from the core BRP mechanics. You touched on some things (a 90% pilot does not crash 10% of the time) that needed touched.
This is a Passive characteristic of 20 (fairly routine). A newly licensed private chopper pilot (skill 15%) must roll his meagre 15% to land successfully.
This seems to create a huge jump between 19% chance of success and 100% chance of success when a student pilot gets to that 20% threshold. While functional, it is not exactly smooth.
First Aid can be matched against twice the hit points lost (the Passive Characteristic). ... Let's try an example: Leroy (hit points 14) is shot in the street with a 9mm and takes 8 points of damage, a very nasty wound.... The paramedics (56%) arrive and test their skill against the 80% wound.
Twice the hit points lost in this example is 16. Where does 80% come from?
