In another thread, the issue of Golconda in Vampire came up, the contention being that the realistic possibility of Golconda (read as "redemption", although that's too simple) undermined the game's presentation of personal horror. And I wrote:
"I'm not sure where I stand on the wider issue - does personal horror (where the actions one is forced into taking are the source of disquiet) lose its meaning and effectiveness where redemption is a clear possibility? This is a very interesting question. SLA, from Graham's depiction, sounds like it gets a lot of power from the absence of redemption. I'd love to hear people get into this topic. So much so that I might make a new thread of it... we're getting a bit far from the Phobia column's brief, maybe, since that seems directed at "terrifying unknown" horror rather than personal horror, but what the hey."
So here's the thread. Any ideas, people? And Graham, have I misrepresented your meaning here?
