Since I got some people's attentions here, I was wondering what the posters here think of the new D20 Cthulhu game coming in the Spring from WOTC? I think this is a little of that "new directions", as alluded to earlier, from other companies looking for the horror RPG outlet. Seeing as this comes from a company not likely to go away (Wizards of the Coast) despite the trade ups and downs in the economy, how do you feel it will fare in today's market? This book will be a "one book only" product from Wizards that will not be supported in further published materials by Wizards. Granted, Chaosium made this deal with Wizards to introduce COC to the D&D D20 masses for increased sales (I assume Wizards will sell the actual product and split the profit with Chaosium), but Chaosium will only grant the new D20 rules modest support in further titles from them by including D20 stats along with original D100 rules stats instead of making different materials to support D20. Will this new D20 venture go down in flames? It doesn't help to note that the majority of old COC regulars love the "simplicity" of the old rules and have the same "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" mindset, as it would seem that same feeling resonates somewhat in the Starwars community concerning the new D20 adaption of that game. In addition, you will also find the oppinions of old-time COC lovers refer to the fact that the majority left the old D&D games and the rules that came with it for the greener pastures of Call of Cthulhu. Not to say that the new D20 rules are the same as the old D&D 2nd. edition rules but still there is that apprehensiveness...
What do you think? Will you buy it when its released? Do you hate the concept? Or is too early to tell for you? Or will you wait and see what others think of it and base your oppinions then?
PS Monte Cook (a previous Wizards D&D writer)is in charge of the book's effort if that answers any inquires.
