Is was actually playing DnD when the news hit. Suffice to say we stopped and turned on the TV to watch in horror the events unfolding in New York. I'm an Australian, so it was about one in the morning as we watched the towers fall.
One of the people I was watching CNN agreed with me that this was not just an attack on American soil, but on the Western way of life. the global response, the sudden outpourings of sympathy show that all around the world people feel the pain, if not the full anguish of the American people. I for one cannot look at the Sydney skyline right now without imagining how I would feel if Sydney Tower was burning rubble.
As to whether to continue to game, well, my other campaign is a Star Wars game. Suffice to say my PCs are more or less rebels, and their next mission is to infiltrate the Imperial Capitol. I really don't know what to do about the whole campaign, as frankly, it cuts way to close to the bone - my Imperial NPCs commonly refer to the rebels as little more than terrorists.
But nor do I want to cancel; that means that the bombers have won, that they are altering the Western way of life to a degree. I don't want that to happen, and I don't want to trivialise the tragedy of September 11, 2001. I will have to walk a very fine line indeed.
Comments welcome and indeed sought.
