This article actually reminds me of an experience I had on the White wolf boards, I was playing a female Vampire (toreador) and got into a catfight with some female player who kept calling me "B****" and "whore" and such, about a week later in a Mage chat, this same woman character became my male mage's best friend. Seh explained that I was the only guy in the game that didn't hit on her. Now firstly in real life, I am a guy, I had a girlfriend and at the time I saw her in the room, i thought I would simply play it cool and not really bother talking to her. but it's amazing how much Gender can change a person's perception of a character and not just because of the obvious sexual connotations. The Same is true when I won best player in a Little Fears game at Gamicon. I played a 9 year old know it all brat who was the older sister of one of the characters and I was dragged along as I was to watch out for my "little brother" Probably 50% of my characters are Female, my reasoning is very simple. Gender is another part of character concept. Between social identity issues, and the basics of your character's psyche, gender can add a lot to a character's identity. Odd how that works out.
