For 2 years running now, I've been in the habit of arranging a fake online Survivor game for an improv league I work with. Survivor II is on its 10th week now (of 16). It's on the web at www.licumweb.com/survivor but it's all in French, sorry 'bout that.<
Anyway, not only is this a role-playing endeavor in the sense that none of the participants are ACTUALLY on the "island" (they vote and do interviews, though the premise is that once they've agreed to participate, I pretty much make up what happens on the show aside from that, generally turning them into a parody of their real selves), but there are a number of gamers participating.
This has led to my writing about various incidents, such as their competing for who's +5 sword was longest (don't ask), one's love for Sailor Jupiter, etc. In other words, I play it mostly for laughs (sometimes, you laugh at the Gamer, sometimes, you have to be a Gamer to get the joke), but sometimes also to make some of them bond around a common hobby they might partake in while on the "island".
I'm sure there are other such experiments on the web...
