Everyone take a step back and remember orcs arent real.
Ok now repeat after me. Orcs are Evil
Orcs are a plague, they are the enemy and deserve death. If you do not kill them then kudos to you and your mercy, but dont think for one second that they given the chance would show you mercy.

Same goes for the analogy you made with Japan and the Germans during WW2 . When we are at war (a war we didnt start) I say kill the enemy.
Dont ask him to be nice. Americans tend to believe that everyone and everything deep down is a good person and should be saved. Sadly its just not true. I'm all for mercy, but not freedom after atrocity. Someone has to pay the price and sure as hell isnt going to be the righteous.
So lets compare that to orcs. In the begining of fantasy (tolkien) others most races lived together somewhat peacefully. Then the orcs
show up and start to rape and pillage and kill for millenias. So as heros your job is to protect woman and child (people orcs dont mind killing, same with the nazis) towns, schools and markets. Heros just dont wander the country side looking to kill Orcs for sheer delight (orcs wander the country side to kill because they enjoy it)
So if I as a hero must use force to protect my way of life you better bet that I'm going to use it.
Now as a DM I would not be against putting in a tribe of Orcs that are not as warlike and can live in peace with the rest of the good races. Are they the norm? no way. Would I punish my players if they went to this tribe and whiped them out? no (unless we have paladins)
this orc tribe could just have been a forward outpost for war.
You might call this genocide. I call it reaping the whirlwind.
I understand that they are not faceless evil they have lives also.
Just like the German Soldiers they to had mothers that loved them
and the Japanese soldiers had wives and children. Dont fool yourself into feeling pity because its the Politically correct thing to do. Becuase All of the jewish, French, Polish, American, English, Russians, Elves, Dwarves, have lost and sacrificed awhole lot more.
So that all races could live together in general peace.
