You know why Penny Arcade is so funny?
Primarily because it seems to be set in the real world. There's a crapload of weird stuff occurring, of course, but they refer to specific games - Black and White, Falllout, Oni and so forth.
They don't have robots who say wacky things, or megalomaniacal superheroes who say and do wacky things. The humor feels less forced. It's about role-playing and role-players. It's also much less generic.
My argument is that you could write a great comic about rpg.net and/or the reviewing of same - any argument within the forum, especially the more interesting ones, could easily provide fodder for a good comic.
But I've seen wacky gags and cute comedy sidekicks and megalomaniacs before. At sluggy.com, cutewendy.com, supermegatopia.com, exploitationnow.com, and every other online comic that tries to copy the same formula.
I just want better.
