I participated in the German Version of the 24h Contest which has even more strict rules since it does not allow the use of cliparts created by someone else but you!
It was my first attempt at writing a complete RPG and it came out quite nice. I even found some time to sleep, and I lost about 2h learning to use OpenOffice.org and getting the PDF done.
Why I did it? I don't know. I had a free weekend, the weather was unpleasent, I could not watch TV and my notebook was fully charged.
What I got from it? An idea on how to structure both my book and my work. In the end I could use OO.o quite well, too. I also learned how to stay awake AND work at the same time without losing concentration. It was a really interesting but strenous experience and I will do it again during the next contest!
