I thought I would pre-empt your new thread, and start it now.
OK, a new line of thought on the whole evolution thing. Let us posit that we do indeed have a loving God who wishes us to appreciate him and glory in the beauty of his creation. Also, to use our gifts to the fullest in His name. One of the primary gifts being that of intelligence.
Now if He is a nice god, as one assumes, would He create the world ex nihilo, in the way you believe, then leave all these clues around that say He did not? For instance (but not limited to) the radiation from the Big Bang, all animals on this Earth sharing a large percentage of DNA, and other clues, to suggest evolution, etc and so forth. Is it testing our faith? If so, why would He set our faith against our intelligence? Since He gave us free will, why would He formulate the tests so that those with the greatest measure of this attribute would find reason to question His word?
You can use the standard cop out, that us mere mortals cannot understand His will. I may not be able to comprehend His mind, but I can understand the minds of humans. If He wishes us to believe in Him (and actively tries to help) why would He almost seem to try to turn away those who can think for themselves? Finally, do you not think that it is more wonderful that He could have planted a seed that bloomed into the universe, that would create all this, including intelligent life that could appreciate it, than merely constructing it and limiting it in such a way as you suggest? After all, time is no object to Him. Six thousand years, six billion years, it really makes no difference to Him.
If you disagree with my points, can you at least do me the courtesy of addressing them? Thank you.
