I just had a quick question for those who have read (or write) this article. A point was brought up that I wish to pursue.
Now, I know this article is focused on female gamers in gaming groups and their problems with male gamers who use "in-character" as an excuse to pursue sexist rhetoric. However, the point was brought up about differentiation between player and character. My question is, how much differentiation is required--or how much is best? Now, I know this is a rather subjective question, but I'm curious as to the opinions here.
I ask because, in my gaming group, I appear to be the one who's character is not clearly differentiated from myself. Now, I believe there is a certain level of difference, but there is one female character in particular who is somewhat exasperated with me because of this--mainly because she's the "bard" of the group, and is trying to write our group's story, but she's having trouble pinning my character down because she doesn't know where I stop and the character begins. I happen to think it's a personal problem (she's also my ex-), b/c there's clear delineation, but I also happen to think it to be a good thing to inject a certain amount of myself into the character, or else, what's the point?
Opinions appreciated,
Stephen Watkins
