As a player of Werewolf I recognised a lot of what was being talking about, its one of the few (only?) games where such things are an explicit part. The game has rites of passage and you only go up 'levels' when you have passed the challange and are recognised. As you go up in status you're role in the society changes and you're expected to behave differently.
Reading your article gave me lots of ideas for additonal rites that ought to be in Werewolf. Given the importance of family, and baby Garou, there really ought to be rights for weddings and something for childbirth for the mother (IIRC there is one for the kid). In fact I think I'm going to go away and write some up.
