Hmm... I always find either Metallica (esp. S&M) or game music to be an incredible source of inspiration.
And I know nobody will agree with me, but there's a lot of Gundam music that works as well. I especially like the main theme from Gundam 08th MS squadron... But that's just me...
Music isn't the only inspiration, though, there's art too. It depends on what you're going for, though. One neat thing to do is to just go to elfwood and poke around a bit. You come up with so many different ideas there.
And finally, there's real life.
Yup. One of the most effective ways to find inspiration is to try and twist something you know into something of fiction. I remember basing a whole D&D campaign on the stereotyped differences between Gamers and non-gamers. The Mages took the place of the gamers, and the rest of the world was on the other side. Sure, there were plenty of rational folks wherever you went, but there were just as many who thought that the mages were really just some sort of evil cult.
Inspiration is everywhere... It just depends on how hard you look
