 The Han Solo Variant

Here's another way to get players to 'take the bait' to kick off a plot.

The PC's are all broke. They need money, and fast. Perhaps (like Han Dolo) they even OWE money to some very nasty sorts who will do some very nasty things to them if they don't fork it over.

This could work with a setup where PC's come into the city where the adventure will take place looking for work or would even work as a setup for the classic 'tavern opening'. ("There's supposed to be a TREASURE in that old deserted castle? Man, this is the answer to my prayers!").

An amusing variant would be to have all the PC's show up where the treasure is supposed to be and fight, plot & scheme to get it away from whoever has it at any certain point, or have them all vying for the same job, or have them have accepted jobs from various patrons who are all working at cross purposes to each other. Then something happens which forces them all to work together....
