I always find it a pain to separate a game's mechanics from the setting for which the mechanics were made.
If a game (like d&d) is made to accomodate several settings, fine. But when setting and rules come as a whole, I will always play them together "parce que séparer les familles, ça il ne faut pas faire."
Brave New World, IMO, has the best "made for rpgs" setting for a superhero game in the industry. I'm not completely crazy about the mechanics though: combat can be too deadly and wound penalties are a real pain and take time to heal (and who really wants to play a healer?).
Since I don't like changing rules, I play the game as it is. Because without those rules, the setting would lose some of its charm.
