...the upcoming Dune Rpg by Last Unicorn Games? I was surprised not to see at least a cursory comment about it.
Lug's Dune Rpg was set to be released last year around Gencon but legal issues delayed it 'til....... well, any day now. Besides being the 1st Rpg set in Frank Herbert's world it should also be the most faithful to Herbert's vision.
As for Lynch's version..... well, it was the best representation for the time. Casting was well done. The visuals were interesting, if not excellent in some parts. But what destroyed it's potential was the severe editing it suffered to bring it to the mainstream, film-going audience. A 4-hour epic is not easily digestable, and the editing of it to 2 hours only made it incomprehensible.
But there is hope on the horizon for a more faithful visual representation of Dune. The Sci-fi channel is producing a mini-series, titled 'Frank Herbert's Dune', which is set for release December of this year. The series will be in 3 parts and will clock around 6 hours. From the excerpts that Sci-fi has already shown... it looks like this mini-series will not only be awesome but will likely have the blessing of the Herbert Limited Partnership.
