I can understand your disliking books on tape; if they're done as full-blown "productions" with music and sound FX and what have you, I can imagine they must be annoying as hell. On the other hand, the one book-on-tape I bought--River God by Wilbur Smith--was excellent. It was just one well-spoken guy reading the book; no excessive dramatics beyond what the novel had to offer were in evidence. So don't dismiss books on tape outright; they can be done beautifully, if anyone bothers.
