Hey, someone had to say it.
Johnathan Lethem: "Gun with Occasional Music" was pretty good, too. I find that these books are sort of like what Chuck Pahlaniuk would write if he wanted to write SF. This is what "edgy, mature" writing is really supposed to be.
"Shooting Fish" metaphors: I always liked PJ O'Rourke's version; "...one pilot compared it to shooting fish in a barrel, but it was really more like sticking a shotgun into a goldfish bowl."
Books I will probably read now: "Zeitgeist". Actually...wasn't there some other near-future book, recently, about an idol-singer group? (Or am I thinking of the same thing?)
Books I'd like to see reviewed: "Lord of the Isles" or other parts of that series, by David Drake. "Into the Darkness", by Harry Turtledove.
