When I started the Rough Quests project I worked on a premise: I love RuneQuest and RuneQuest is dead, so why not design a game inspired by it? That was then. Now Mongoose is going to bring back RuneQuest, something I just could not antecipate at the time.
Does this mean the Rough Quests project has lost its justification? I think not. On one side Rough Quests is not simply an update of RuneQuest. It aims at designing a new fantasy rpg that may be very different from RuneQuest. The latter game is just the departing point in my design efforts. I'm also looking at other games while I move forward with Rough Quests. On the other side, my ideas and concepts may diverge markedly from those that are underlying the preparation of the Mongoose edition of RuneQuest. I guess that Rough Quests and RuneQuest are going to be fairly different games.
