Excellent column, Anituel, one of the most enjoyable and useful ones I have seen in rpg.net for a while. I have been printing them out and using them to help direct my portrayal of magic in my current world of darkness Cthulu game. I think the players got a kick out of mucking around with sympathetic magic - the last game had them collecting hearts blood of a brave man, lion's mane and gunpowder in order to casta counterspell versus a fear spell, as well as having to research and discover words of power on an ancient sumerian tablet. I'm playing with the ideas of working true names into the plot somewhere (I've given all the sorcerous characters pseudonyms at present) and the player who has started learning Hermetic sorcery has just been inducted into the Circle of Earth, the Apprentice level of the Art.
Just curious if anyone out there has come across any roleplaying games that depict hermetic magic really well. I've played Mage and I own Ars Magica and Dark Age: Mage. Are there any other games out there people would point me towards?
Also does anyone know of any good web-based resources for ideas re: the practice and trappings of hermetic magic?
And does anyone have any good story ideas relating to Hermetic magic?
