Conan.
The Grey Mouser.
Conan was a warrior AND an exceptional thief (go read the Robert Howard stories, you uncultured swine). But because he's human, he can't multiclass, and dual-classing is inaccurate - he didn't "lose experience", whatever that means in any roleplaying terms, when he stole instead of fighting.
The Grey Mouser is almost plausible as a dual-classed Magic-User/Thief... But he used and improved his magery a number of times throughout his career.
If you're going to call Conan the King or the Grey Mouser "old crones", I'll have to ask you to step outside. (They'd do it themselves, but they're ontologically challenged).
When TSR tried to do Lankhmar, they had to blatantly break the rules left and right to simulate characters who are the archetypes of the fantasy genre...
Get over it, Larry. AD&D is a crap wargame that was extended into the first RPG, but it's a total write-off today.
