Well written article, Dave. Personally, I find that my brain tends to be more idle than my hands. These days I’m devoting my creative energies to working with existing paradigms and exploring worlds that others have fashioned. Instead of working on original creations molded from my own soul, I end up spending hours on prepping adventures for my Scarred Lands and Conan campaigns.
Don't get me wrong; I love exploring the creations that others have wrought. I just sometimes look back and wonder if my time would have been better spent molding my own original works. I have tons of ideas that have yet to see fruition because I’d rather work with something that I know others enjoy (ie, my players) instead of taking a chance on my own creations that possess the real potential of resulting in failure.
