What I like about Whedon's writing is the witty banter between the very human characters. He makes me wish that me and my friends talked like that to each other. The plotlines, backstory, etc. are often a bit trite (though I can name a dozen Buffy episodes that were really groundbreaking), but they're not what does it for me. Whedon's a dialogue guy, and I like good dialogue.
