A fine introduction. I'll put in a request for a future topic though. While you can certainly and successfully treat a subject as defined, not by one, but by a web of definitions, the trick is being able to do anything with this web.
So, let's assume that the three perspectives you mentioned as an example provide adequate coverage of the concept role-playing. Now I walk in and say, ``By the way, what is this role-playing thing?'' How has your ability to answer me been improved by your web of three definitions?
Similarly, perhaps less challengingly, suppose that after reading your column I suddenly see that some of the friction between me and the other players in group X is that I'm a perspective #2 guy, while they're mostly perspective #1s. How do I proceed from this insight?
I'm not trying to put down your definitions in any way, shape or form. I'm saying that the interesting part of definitions is what you can do with them. You have some interesting definitions and I'd enjoy seeing you exercsise them some day.
