 great topic and advice

I found this column both enjoyable to read and useful in content.

I brought a lot of bad habits into my GMing as an adult from my time gaming as a teenager. In the 80s antagonism between players and GM was the norm in the area I gamed in. My friends (the players) and I were really tough on each other, but it was okay because we had known each other for years.

With my recent groups, I've found I have to be much more supporting and careful. Life as an adult is hard with work, bills, and stress piling up on my current friends and fellow gamers. The game needs to be fun and relaxing and if a character dies the player needs to just move on and not take too much abuse.

Luckily, my current group is comfortable joking around when someone screws up. I think you make a good point of not hammering on the person for the rest of the night. What can be laughed at when it happens the first time can quickly become annoying if it is brought up again and again.

Great advice. I'm looking forward to your next column.

Charlie
