I can't agree more on that one. I can't remember the amount of times that if the players or the GM were listning that things could have got much more smoothly. This collum should be given some kind of reward and this will be a required topic for the next gaming session. It has been alog time since I have stressed this one.
To digress a little as I am want to do, I have seen more PC deaths due to this exsact phenomenon than any other. Case in point... A group of hero's were going in to rescue the kidnapped town mayors daughter from the vampires hideout up in the mountains. As they grew nearer to their objective they were aguing about how they would get in. They had seen that there was a choke point at the entrance to the vampire's caverns and that one of them, the big tall brawny one would have a tough time getting in. The small brainy PC was out of paitients and decided in a battle cry "I'll get her, I'll go first!" and rushed in. The other PCs were still arguing at this point not paying a bit of attention. Well as my well laid plans would have it there was an ambush point just inside the entrance that would have to be cleared out, guess who sprung the trap? The PCs after hearing a hail of gun fire and explosions of a few grenades decided that they better get a move on. One of the PCs managed to get in behind the ambush position and hosed the entire area with his weapon, ignoring the discription that I had given them about the tactical situation. He scored a perfect hit of a natural 20. What he forgot was that his compainion was within the kill zone as well getting chopped up by the little beastly fuzzy ugly guys as well. As our little brainiac wounder was doing his death dance the last of our heros was able to squeez inside in just enough time to see one of the ugly fuzzies put the finishing touch on our hopless brainiac. He was too late to save him. Needless to say in real time it took him aprox ten seconds to be turned into a vaporized red mist cloud. So much for listning to detail.
They were much better listners in future games.
