In general I agree with the author even if the others who state that it is a spectrum do have a point. But there is a goal to aim at that is short of bedlam.

Let the players have their freedom to play their characters, and then assail them with logical consequences.

This requires good judgment, and a thorough knowledge of the world and people which makes it that many GM's can not run this way effectively.

But when you can, it is easier for the GM, and often more fun(or at least less frustrating) for the players who are not artificially constrained.

For me, it seems the best effect due to my lack of time to prepare, and instead I substitute a writer's knowledge of the world in its place.

Yes, this makes the grand story more difficult to achieve, but what is the point of your game? Is it to tell a wondrous story while the peons sit around you in awe at your brilliance? Trust me, they hardly care. They want to get to the good stuff, which is what they plan to do. And in truth, I get enough ego boost out of doing most of the talking anyways; I do not require making most of the story's main points as well.
