I can't help but add my glaring omissions to the list.

First off, in the book arena, I believe Lucifer's Hammer is a great novel that depicts an cataclysmic asteroid collision with the earth. It begins slowly with the discovery of the collision course and is a tough read for about 200 pages, but then rips right into the action with the impact and suvival immediately after. It is a great post-apocolypse feel for the "soon after" genre games. This is, by far, my favorite post-apocolypse novel to date...tho I admit I have a lot more books that I need to read.

In the gaming arena, I would suggest a nod in the way of Aftermath!. A bit of a dated game and out of print, as well as being a scientists nightmare to try and actually play the rule set, but the source material and ideas it envigorates are worth the time.

In a completely separate arena, there are a couple of video games that are excellent examples of post-apocolypse gaming and are great for inspiration. Wasteland and Fallout are the two major one. Both written by the same man should be played by anyone remotely interested in being Mad Max.

Just my two cents
