I think the "Never Stealing Names Rule" is a good rule of thumb. However, some times there is a name that just flows off the tongue or a person thinks is really pretty. For instance I am a horrible guilty name stealer. SHAME on me I know. I chose the name Leilia (spelled differently)from "Record of Lodoss Wars" for one of my characters.
Why? because I love the name. Also it has two very nice nicknames as well. Lia, and Li. Unfortunately, my group also found the name Lei ::sighs::
Usually if other players recognize your characters name is stolen they'll groan and gripe and call you a twink though. So it's BEST not to do it.
