When you can't see the bottom, at least you know you won't hit your head, so jump in headfirst!
I've actually played The Pool (with it's creator), and in no small way had some heavy influence in its origin and progressive evolution. It is an exercise in creativity, and improvisational pure role-playing, with just enough structure to allow everyone to play by fateful rules.
Having played the game, I read this article with much appreciation for my life long friend's passionate interest finally gaining some attention. He told me once when I suggested that we should 'market' and sell an idea, hell we were even set to start a publishing company in college, he yea, but there's soooo much competition, and you have to come up with something NO ONE has ever thought of before. I said, 'so! you we do that every damn day!' Now he has something out in the open that gets everyone's wondering what The Pool is. This article was not a lure put out there for a test market, it is marketing in it purest form; the beginning of word of mouth (like it or hate it, you'll talk about it), curiosity (not enough of the game described to allow you to make a decision).
Seek out the game rules, figure them out, play the thing, if you have problems, contact Mr. West the Owner and Creator for an explanation. Remember how hard sometimes it was to get D&D straight? This game has potential to be something big, and it'll happen regardless of opinion. In fact one of the surest signs of success is criticism, just remember that no one remembers or builds monuments to cynics, they are simply remembered as history's fools who lack vision enough to carve their own path.
So criticize if the notion grabs you, but when was the last time someone got excited and recognized something that you did? And if you have been recognized, then guaranteed, someone has criticized you for your success.
'Blessed are the flexible for they shall never break under the pressure.' Try the game, play the game, get into it, see how good a role player you are, can you tread water in The Pool? Or will you drown in your own lack of imagination.....the rules can be found at www.randomordercreations.com or email mr west at thepool@randomordercreations.com
