-The notion of gambling dice seems kinda odd to me. Let's say a character is doing research now, and knows she may be in a swordfight later. As near as I can tell, the player has to decide "how hard" she will research, knowing that researching harder means she might lose the fight. Whereas, in anything like reality, there's no causal relationship there.
-I dunno. I tend to favor systems where the _player_ doesn't have to make any decisions the _character_ doesn't make. In this case, the players' awareness of the gambling aspect is going to force them to roleplay badly, if they want to win the fight. "Does your character research intensely?" "Uh, no, she does it sort of half-assed." "Why?" "Because of the rules. Gotta save my dice."
