Yes, a bit of out-of-character knowledge can be great in the right sort of game. Knowing that my character was trusting a traitor within the party, playing on regardless and watching the inevitable unfold as my character walked into a trap was quite delicious. Contrariwise, in another game where I didn't know that my character was being betrayed, I not only missed out on the whole build-up, but also found it very hard not to feel betrayed as a player when the consequences unfolded.
