Sandy's Soapbox
"You land on Boardwalk."
"I don't buy it."
"What? Why?"
"'Top Hat' wouldn't do that."
So how hard is it to expand this out to a full RPG experience?
"Okay, then 'Car' buys it!"
"But 'Car' isn't even close!"
"It can drive, right?"
"Okay, fine, then 'Iron' backstabs."
"How can an 'Iron' backstab?"
"It's cold steel, right? And besides, I spent my points in 1 level of Thief class."
So without further ago, here's the stat blocks for starting Tokens only.
Car: starting class = Monk. Special ability = can change their move to end on a different property of the same set (color or type aka 'railroad', 'utility','chance') as their roll ended on.
Iron: starting class = Cleric. Special ability = buys properties and pays rents at 50% off.
Hat: starting class = Mage. Can add or subtract 1 to their roll.
Shoe: starting class = Ranger. Special ability = can change their move to any unowned property on the same side of the board as where their roll ended on. Begins game with only half starting money, though.
Doggie: starting class = Fighter. Special ability = automatically move to property #3 of a set after they buy property #1 and #2.
Wheelbarrow: starting class = Thief. Special ability = instead of rolling to move, can backstab any player on the same side of the board who just bought a property that round; thief moves to that square and that player has to either pay the thief 50% of the cost of the property to keep it, or surrender the property to the thief.
Thimble: starting class = Bard. Special ability = can only be attacked or backstabbed if they choose to fight. If they choose to avoid a fight, they get to immediately roll and thus take an extra turn.
Battleship: what the #$%^? There's a battleship in the game? This piece was missing from my childhood set. Heck, just give the battleship offshore bombing each turn, removing 2d6 * $10 dollars from all opponents (each player rolls separately for their damage). But it can't actually land on any spaces of the board to claim property.
Additional Rules:
If two pieces are on the same square, they can fight... winner gets to loot half of the loser's cash. Get 200 experience points when you pass "Go". Sent to Jail = gain 1 level in 'Thief'. When you gain a level in another class, you also gain that class special ability.
And, of course, winner is the last piece standing.
Until next month,
Sandy
