Sandy's Soapbox #126: Tell Me What You Want

Sandy's Soapbox
As 2007 draws near a close, I checked out my readership stats. And, lo, only two of my columns this year broke 2,500 readers. Instead of making 2008 be my usual random guess at what is interesting, I thought I'd take my own business advice and survey my readers

So, tell me what you want (what you really really want), through an web poll. And here are our potential 2008 upcoming column possibilities!

A Samurai LARP. Time to present the as-run LARP I offered months ago but, *ahem*, haven't gotten to writing up here. Yet. To be presented as how a LARP can scale from 3 to 200 people. My LARP columns have some of my higher readership numbers, I'm curious to see if the poll bears this out.

LARP Construction Kit. My first published article, way back in Cryptych, was on how to write a LARP. Given the current LARP state of the art, we don't have to make things from scratch anymore.

Plot as a conserved quantity. A hybrid LARP/tabletop game design column. A good scenario balances GM-created plot, player generated plot, and spotlight time so it can all fit into the runtime.

Using Nepotism. I hate nepotism and cronyism, but I admit I use it. It's called 'networking', and is the best way to score work. Plus this column gets me back to my roots in reporting on how this industry really works.

An ARG cookbook. Having constructed an ARG recently, I thought it'd be worth going through some of the logistical hurdles faced.

Why "Call of Cthulhu" often isn't Lovecraftian. A favored rant on why CoC gaming so often gets stuck in 'Monster Manual' mode.

ADHD and the Game Biz. The title says it all. Plus I haven't even outlined it yet. Oh, wait, I have a better idea... I'll probably end up writing this one last minute.

Gamer Ad Scripts. I came up with two 'gag' strips suitable for a webcomic, a commercial about gaming, or an amateur video. I'll never get to producing them, time to offer them out to more talented folks.

There you have it, eight potential columns for next year. Hit my web poll and let me know which ones you want to see!

Until next month,
Sand
